Sandra Del Castillo has several kitchens, but she doesn’t cook. “I eat out a lot,” she says – preferably at Cipriani. “We have been going for years. It’s strange if I don’t find myself at Cipriani several times a week.”
A Miami native and founder of IPM Worldwide Properties, she’s a regular at Cipriani’s Brickell Avenue location, always asking for an off-menu dish for the table (“They’ll do a spaghetti with red sauce and fresh mozzarella that’s just to die”).
So when the Italian hospitality group announced the launch of Cipriani Residences Miami in Brickell — right down the street from the restaurant — Castillo jumped at the chance to live and breathe the brand.
“I have three units in the building,” Castillo says of the 80-story, 397-unit tower at 1420 South Miami Ave., which is currently under construction. “Cipriani is not only an emblematic brand, but is so rooted in the customer experience that it feels like family.”
She’s such a believer in the project that she recommends the building to her clients, even though Fortune Development Sales has exclusive market rights (unit prices start at $1.7 million).
Castillo is not alone in her zeal to live near a good meal. A slew of new buildings from high-end hospitality groups are springing up for buyers who live to eat.
The most notable of these is Terra and One Thousand Group’s Major Food Group, the 70-unit, 56-story Villa Miami at 710 NE 29th St. in Edgewater. The project will treat shoppers to a menu that includes concierge services, a rooftop helipad and an on-site restaurant. Prices start at $5 million and come with membership to a club inside the building — with a bar, a movie theater, a spa, a pool and a helipad — private for 50 to 100 members. Casa Tua is cooking with similar flavors in Ora. Located at 1210 Brickell Ave, the 77-story building has 533 fully furnished residences developed by Fortune International Group in partnership with the Miami-based restaurant and bar. It’s channeling the resort vibe with a 9th-floor pool, cabanas and a 40-foot open-air garden.
Casa Tua is also planning four new dining concepts (Terra, Uva, Fuoco and Vento) in the building, which will boast the highest rooftop restaurant in Miami. At the top of this is a private club on the 77th floor – another “tallest in Miami”. Prices start at $995,000.
Finally, international superstar Jean-Georges Vongerichten is building a brand new 329-unit, 48-story condominium in the Design District, Jean-Georges Miami Tropic Residences, with Terra and Lion Development.
It’s the chef’s first real estate venture, and Vongerichten is eager to get it right. He is personally programming the meals, selecting the kitchen appliances and even stocking the home refrigerators with local produce (if you wish). Catch him in the elevator; he is keeping a unit to himself.
