Three’s a crowd when it comes to visiting the in-laws.
A Northern Colorado group that’s gone viral for their unusual deal admits it can be super “difficult” to go home for Christmas.
“As a group, we sometimes face challenges with family during the holidays,” Alana, 27, a branch of the ménage à trois relationship, told Jam Press.
The awkward situation began after she and Kevin, 33, who had been dating for five years, decided to take on a third musketeer so he could explore her “bi-curiosity”. So they joined threesome dating app 3Fun – and that’s when they met Megan, 37.
The fledgling trio quickly hit it off and formed their current tripleheader, which they now refer to as “Camp Throuple” on Instagram, where they boast over 200,000 followers.
And while the polyamorous lovebirds – who share a king-sized bed – have managed to triple their fun, they’ve also had some problems, such as visiting three sets of in-laws over Christmas.
They regularly experience “misunderstandings and awkward moments from those less familiar with our relationship,” according to Alana.
“All eyes are definitely on us whenever we attend a festive event together,” said Alana. “Whether people already know about our relationship or are meeting us for the first time, you can often feel the tension in the room.”
Luckily, they’ve come up with a way to avoid the holiday stress – by making their Christmas visits digitally.
Since we live in another country, we don’t spend the holidays personally with our families,” said Alana. “We do video calls or send gifts instead, and plan visits at other times of the year.”
She added: “It just helps to avoid any time-splitting stress and allows us to enjoy the holidays together.”
Instead, the three will spend Christmas Day going to the movies and staying home snuggling up in matching onesies.
The only pressing issue is who will be the middle spoon. “We roll every night!” Kevin said. “We use the MAK and cheese method to stay in order.”
She added, “It just means Megan, Alana and Kevin — that’s how we remember who’s in the middle, just how we roll.”
Megan said their passing ultimately proves that “the holidays don’t have to look a certain way to be meaningful” and “that what matters most is the love and purpose behind how we spend them.”
“Being able to create new traditions together has been one of the most rewarding parts of our journey as a group,” she said.
Kevin claims haters sometimes tell them they’re going “straight to hell,” but he doesn’t sweat it because “Santa Claus doesn’t discriminate.”
